Middle Earth as you've never seen it before. The First Age is a zoomable satellite view of Middle Earth built from over 400 USGS Landsat images of Earth, repurposed and combined into one exquisite rendering of Middle Earth as it would have looked in the First Age.
From Beleriand in the West to the Bay of Cuiviénen in the East the map accurately combines drawn maps of Middle Earth in the First and Third Ages by using common elements such as the Hill of Himring and the highlands of Taur-nu-Fuin.
* Amazing detail based on 5 different levels of zoom.
* An information view with details of the main locations in the history of The First Age.
* A distance calculator. Simply select two points and the distance between them is calculated.
* Middle Earth in the real world. JRR Tolkien once compared the latitude and longitude of Hobbiton to Oxford in England. The First Age is based on that assumption. The future position of Hobbiton (it didn't exist until the Third Age) is at exactly the same location as Oxford in the real world. As a result, it's possible to see where Middle Earth map locations would be in the real world. For instance, did you know that Lorien would be near Munich, or Greece in Mordor?
